Netflix enters AI animation with INKubator, its new discrete studio
Netflix is officially venturing into generative AI animation. According to job postings spotted by Sherwood News, the company is building a studio called INKubator, focused on developing cinematic-quality animated content using AI.
The studio launched in March 2026 quietly, with no public announcement. Its leader is Serrena Iyer, an executive with experience at DreamWorks Animation, MRC Studios, and A24 Films. Her LinkedIn describes her as focused on "developing cinematic-quality content in a creator-led environment."
Current openings include producers, software engineers, and CG artists. The initial focus would be AI-generated short films, though ambition extends to longer-form content.
This move comes in the context of an accelerating race to dominate AI animation in Hollywood. In March, Netflix acquired InterPositive, an AI film startup associated with Ben Affleck, for up to $600 million depending on milestones.

AI animation is moving from experiment to serious strategy for major studios. Netflix is following the path Disney already took with its technology acquisitions. The next step is seeing who dominates short-form AI animated production — that becomes the foundation for feature films.
