Meta transforms its workforce toward AI in one week
Company led by Mark Zuckerberg will reassign 7,000 employees to AI teams while simultaneously eliminating 8,000 jobs this week, according to an internal memo confirmed by Meta spokespeople to Bloomberg and The New York Times.
The restructuring includes the creation of four new organizations with structures designed specifically for the AI era, consolidating Zuckerberg's bet on positioning Meta as a leader in infrastructure and LLM-based products. The reassigned employees came from teams that will be dissolved entirely.
The move aligns with a sector-wide trend: Google, Microsoft and Amazon have also reorganized their workforces toward generative AI projects in the last six months. Meta, which already invests more than US$50 billion annually in AI, is accelerating its transition while competitors reduce traditional team headcounts.

What does this mean for you?
Meta's restructuring confirms that the bet on AI at scale is irreversible for big techs. If you work in technology, the question is no longer whether your area will be affected by AI, but when. The most valuable skills will be those that combine creativity with the ability to supervise AI systems.
