Apple finally upgrades Siri after years of falling behind

Apple unveiled a completely redesigned Siri at its annual WWDC conference (June 2026). It's the biggest change to Siri since its launch over a decade ago.

What can it do now?

The new Siri can hold natural conversations — you don't need to give step-by-step instructions. You can ask something vague like "organize my day" and the assistant understands the context, checks your calendar, emails and messages, and proposes a plan.

It can also read documents and photos you send it. If you send a screenshot of a hotel reservation, Siri extracts the details and adds them to your calendar. If you send a work document, it summarizes it and explains the key points.

Another important feature: Siri now understands what you're doing on your phone at that moment. If you're viewing an email and ask "what time is my flight?", you don't need to switch apps — Siri has context of what's on your screen.

Why did it take so long?

Apple was a pioneer in voice assistants with Siri in 2011, but for years it fell behind ChatGPT and Google Assistant. The new version uses its own language model (similar to what competitors use) and integrates with Apple Intelligence for more complex tasks.

What does this mean for you?

Apple finally brought Siri up to date. If you have an iPhone, the new Siri will be much more useful for everyday tasks — especially reading documents and holding contextual conversations. It's a reminder that even the biggest companies can fall behind in AI if they don't speed up.
